I had first seen the app on a reflecting table look on Cynergy TV and I really liked it, so when I was building FlexBox I decided to give it the same look. Many people have recently asked me how I implemented that look … so I am posting this simple example to show how.

I have used Narciso Jaramillo’s LiveReflection component to achieve this. Thanks Narciso.

Juan Sanchez of ScaleNine.com fame recently started a Flex and Apollo UI discussion group on Yahoo which will be used to discuss application skinning, styling, extending components to get a visual look you want, UI design practices, patterns, etc. for Apollo and Flex.

So if you are interested in making awesome looking Flex and Apollo applications.. go ahead and join the list.

I met Harish Sivaramakrishnan, who works with Adobe’s Flex Team here in India, at the recent get together of Flex developers in Bangalore and encouraged him to start an blog and share with all of us his knowledge of Flex….. he took my advice and has started off by posting some very nice components and examples. So go ahead and check out all the neat stuff.

In case you are wondering where are those updates that I promised to FlexBox’s features and its components list… well there was a break in and theft in my house last Wednesday and among other things my beloved Laptop was stolen ….. I am writing this post sitting in an Internet Cafe (Yukk!!!!) …..This has set me back a few days on all these updates that I had planned but not to worry, I have backups of everything I need and I’m trying to get back on track as soon as possible.

The Flex Components space has been Hot!! lately and I will soon be adding some excellent new components to flexbox .. so stay tuned.

I have been a little slow with emails as well, I hope you understand .. I will reply soon.

John Koch, Adobe’s Developer Relations Manager for Asia is in Bangalore and he with Abdul Qabiz’s help got some Flex Developers in Bangalore together for an afternoon drink today. It was quite an exciting experience for me especially so as until today I had never met another Flex developer in person. There were around 12 people there all from different backgrounds but all linked together by Flex.

Things started out with everyone chit chatting, getting to know each other, talking about what they are working on etc. It felt very nice to know that companies like Mogulus and Sunguard are doing some very exciting Flex development in India. Raghu, Harish and Samir who are from the Adobe Flex Team were also present there and I found it particularly interesting to know their opinion on different aspects of Flex.

Later on, John expressed his (Adobe’s) desire to help out in the formation of an organized community of Flex developers in India, he also extended an offer to contribute with any resources or help that may be needed in the process. There was a lot of discussion around what could be the best ways of evangelizing Flex in the Indian IT industry targeting both the decision makers and developers and how could we get more and more developers to contribute to the community. I had a gala time discussing all this and a lot of very interesting ideas came as an outcome…. I think that the seeds for a very active and exciting Flex community have been sown. If you are interested in participating or just knowing more details on how things are going to go moving forward stay tuned to the flex_india mailing list. A lot of exciting stuff is around the corner.

I would like to thank John and Abdul for making all this possible and also everyone else who came, it was great meeting you all and I hope we stay in touch.
