Yup, you heard it right, Microsoft has released the source code of the .NET Framework libraries .. they haven’t gone all the way and open sourced it but they have made the source available for debugging and reference, this is very exciting because I’m sure there is a lot in there to learn. The libraries open sourced include …
- NET Base Class Libraries (including System, System.CodeDom, System.Collections, System.ComponentModel, System.Diagnostics, System.Drawing, System.Globalization, System.IO, System.Net, System.Reflection, System.Runtime, System.Security, System.Text, System.Threading, etc).
- ASP.NET (System.Web, System.Web.Extensions)
- Windows Forms (System.Windows.Forms)
- Windows Presentation Foundation (System.Windows)
- ADO.NET and XML (System.Data and System.Xml)
Scott Gu in his blog post does hint at other libraries being added but there is no mention of Silverlight in there. The part that is most exciting to me is the availability of Windows Presentation Foundation source, I’m sure there’s stuff in there for us UI enthusiasts to learn from.
Here’s how you can setup Visual Studio to work with the released source.

My day looked something like this ….

As this is our first time organizing a conference, we are trying to keep the scale of the event in control and hence we had originally planned to have only 100 attendees. We ran out of these seats very quickly … and since then there have been many people who have approached us wishing they could register… so we have now decided to add 15 more seats … if you haven’t registered already, go do it now before the seats run out again.
Note: If you had earlier registered and now cannot attend due to some unforeseen reason, please un-register so that someone else could attend in your place.
See you Sunday. read more

The preparations for initRIA have been going great, we exhausted our 100 seats in less that three days of opening registrations … actually due to a technical glitch on the website we overshot the limit by 7 seats
.. so we now have 107 registrations (don’t worry we can handle that) ….. thank you every one who helped spreading the word.
I’m now getting the topic proposals sorted out and planning the schedule out. I’ll keep everyone posted. read more
