Exactly a year ago today, I released a flex app I built over the weekend and called it flexbox .. many people loved it and since then it has received 115000 visitors from 4629 cities around the world and it still continues to receive hundreds of visitors everyday. I’m very glad to know that you guys liked it so much.
When FlexBox started off I had hoped that I would spend more time with it, improve the application and keep adding more components .. but all that never happened .. my apologies guys, last year was just crazy, it was quite fast moving with a lot of stuff happening and I never got time for flexbox.
A few months back some guys from Adobe approached me and told that they were working on this application codenamed yogi that would have a components explorer, they showed me a prototype that had some nice features like an inbuilt preview mechanism, a way to rate components, notifications when new components are added etc .. all this stuff was missing in FlexBox so I gladly gave them all the data from FlexBox to use in their new application. This application is now live and is called Adobe Developer Connection Desktop, its an AIR application and its really cool so check it out.
FlexBox of course is still available, I will try to add stuff to it whenever I can. read more
Flex.org, the home of the Flex developer community worldwide and a one stop destination for everything Flex, today added a new page on Flex components and the introductory paragraph of the page is pointing to FlexBox:
“You can also find a comprehensive list of Flex components at Flex Box, a directory for Flex components.”
According to Google Analytics, in the three months or so since I launched FlexBox, it has had over 33000 visits by about 14000 visitors who came from every part of the globe that you can think of…. I had never before heard of few of those countries that appear in the list from where these visitors came from.
It feels great to know that this little tool that I put together in a couple of days using an xml dump of my Firefox bookmark list, is helping Flex developers around the globe. read more
Silly as I am .. I was playing around with my domain settings and I ended up password protecting FlexBox … it was not accessible to everyone for about 15 minutes. I was not in front of the computer for this little while and when I get back i saw 8 emails from people asking … “What’s wrong with FlexBox?” … I have fixed the problem now and it would be great if someone could confirm that its all ok.
It feels great to know that people are finding FlexBox useful and are using it a lot. read more
I had first seen the app on a reflecting table look on Cynergy TV and I really liked it, so when I was building FlexBox I decided to give it the same look. Many people have recently asked me how I implemented that look … so I am posting this simple example to show how.
