Flex India User Community: the seeds have been sown
John Koch, Adobe’s Developer Relations Manager for Asia is in Bangalore and he with Abdul Qabiz’s help got some Flex Developers in Bangalore together for an afternoon drink today. It was quite an exciting experience for me especially so as until today I had never met another Flex developer in person. There were around 12 people there all from different backgrounds but all linked together by Flex.
Things started out with everyone chit chatting, getting to know each other, talking about what they are working on etc. It felt very nice to know that companies like Mogulus and Sunguard are doing some very exciting Flex development in India. Raghu, Harish and Samir who are from the Adobe Flex Team were also present there and I found it particularly interesting to know their opinion on different aspects of Flex.
Later on, John expressed his (Adobe’s) desire to help out in the formation of an organized community of Flex developers in India, he also extended an offer to contribute with any resources or help that may be needed in the process. There was a lot of discussion around what could be the best ways of evangelizing Flex in the Indian IT industry targeting both the decision makers and developers and how could we get more and more developers to contribute to the community. I had a gala time discussing all this and a lot of very interesting ideas came as an outcome…. I think that the seeds for a very active and exciting Flex community have been sown. If you are interested in participating or just knowing more details on how things are going to go moving forward stay tuned to the flex_india mailing list. A lot of exciting stuff is around the corner.
I would like to thank John and Abdul for making all this possible and also everyone else who came, it was great meeting you all and I hope we stay in touch.

it was a great afternoon meeting. I learned alot about the realities that developers face here in Bangalore and in India in general. I think there is alot we can do. One thing is for sure is that the more we are able to come together and unite towards common goals, the more we can accomplish. and the more fun we can have

Indeed a great experience and feeling. We have just got started, we need to consistently work on this.
I hope, meetings would happen very often in Bangalore. Meanwhile, I am going to work on Pune usergroup and get connected with developers in rest of India.
Thanks to John Koch for spending time with us, Thanks to you for entire venue arrangement and thanks to everyone who wished to be there, who made it…
Hopefully, next meeting would start having some agenda…

It would be great if you share the technical outputs that came from the meetings, so that we guys who missed the chance can get some info about that.

Hi Durairaj,
This was more like a casual get to know each other kind of a meeting and there was nothing much technical about it. We did not even have a formal agenda planned…. but this is not going to be the case with meetings from now on .. we will try and follow a more structured approach. One of the suggestions that came out was to have a website that would aggregate all India related resources for flex developers like blogs, training information, books etc. so flex-india.org would soon be set up.
We will use the flex_india list for all communication so if you are interested in participating please join it. Any sort of ideas and suggestions would be most helpful and appreciated.

Once the community has gained a little bit of shape
it would be great to have such an event were we all could talk, discuss, live, breathe … Flex.
